The Rise of Emojibator – From Playful Idea to Sexual Wellness Revolution

In the ever-evolving world of sexual wellness, Emojibator stands out as a brand that has successfully combined humour, inclusivity, and body-safe pleasure. Born from a late-night joke, Emojibator's playful designs—modelled after popular emojis—have become a staple in the conversation around masturbation and sexual health. Today, we’re diving into the story behind this cheeky brand and why it’s become a beloved part of the Please family.

The Birth of a Playful Revolution

The idea of transforming an eggplant emoji (long recognised as a euphemism for a penis) into a vibrator started as a light-hearted joke. Jaime Jandler, the founder of Emojibator, never imagined that this whimsical concept would turn into a thriving business. Jandler, who studied business management at the University of Delaware and had a background in tech and music, stumbled upon the idea during a late-night brainstorming session. "It had that ‘wow’ factor, and I thought it had viral potential," he explained. It turns out, he was right.

Jandler, along with his business partner Kristin Fretz, launched Emojibator in August 2016 with a modest order of 1,000 vibrators. These 4.84-inch toys, shaped like eggplants, quickly caught the attention of the media and consumers alike. A press release to Cosmopolitan helped the product go viral, selling out in just over a month. By their second month in business, Emojibator had already sold another 1,000 units and secured retail contracts with New York’s Museum of Sex and sex toy retailer Good Vibrations.

Embracing Inclusivity and Humour

What sets Emojibator apart is its commitment to making masturbation accessible and approachable for everyone. The brand’s mission is clear: to destigmatize masturbation and promote healthy sexuality. "We help folks from all backgrounds introduce or reintroduce pleasure into their lives," says the company. From those just beginning their sexual wellness journey to individuals overcoming trauma, anxiety, or pain, Emojibator’s products aim to create more pleasurable, shame-free experiences.

Emojibator’s designs are not just about fun—they're about fostering open conversations around sex. "We don’t think sex needs to be taken seriously all the time," Jandler stated. "So we’ll make more unique products that are both intimate and silly." Their approach has resonated with a wide audience, earning them features in major publications like Cosmopolitan, The New York Times, and Rolling Stone, as well as several sexual health and design awards.

The Future of Emoji-Themed Pleasure

As Emojibator continues to grow, Jandler and Fretz have their sights set on even bigger goals. "The challenge we face now is seizing this opportunity to permanently change the public’s perception about sex toys and masturbation, and an even bigger task of changing consumer behaviour along the way," Jandler noted. Their next product, a chili pepper-shaped vibrator, promises to continue their tradition of combining playful design with functionality, offering a little more curve for added pleasure.
